1. B-165(1) Copy Leaves repaired in gatherings a and H. Binding: Contemporary, perhaps Netherlandish, blind-tooled calf over pasteboards. Rebacked. Two holes for thongs on the outer edge of each cover. On both covers triple fillets form two concentric frames, the outer undecorated, the inner decorated with a circular rosette stamp and a lozenge-shaped double-headed eagle stamp. The inner rectangle is divided into lozenge-shaped and triangular compartments, decorated with a whole or part of a lozenge-shaped foliate ornament stamp. David Rogers has noted, inside the upper cover, that the binding was repaired in 1956 by E. E. Wilmot. Size: 235 × 175 × 47 mm. Size of leaf: 230 × 163 mm. Manuscript fragments lining the covers removed in 1956 and bound as Bodleian Library, MS. Lat. misc. c.18* (SC 47899), fols 61-2. The paper leaves, repaired by Wilmot, are badly mutilated, and contain manuscript material in perhaps one hand, probably dating from the end of the fifteenth century. On fol. 61^v a text, entitled ‘Tenor vero cedule propositorum paprice | de qua ffertur, sequitur et est talis', with incipit ‘Venerabilis domine officialis Le-d-e[ ], | procurator et eo nomine Geurici [ ].’ Occasional marginal notes. Some words deleted or scratched out in the Disputatio inter mundum et religionem. Pagination in black ink. Provenance: George Bryghtman (fifteenth/early sixteenth century); inscription on H4v: ‘Iste liber pertinet Georgio Bryghtman'. Henry Ma[ ]; possibly Henry Massey (b. 1698/9); see A‑523; signature on a2r, with end of surname destroyed by damage to the edge of the leaf.
