Binding: Contemporary Netherlandish (Schwenke–Schunke–Rabenau 4-5, ‘Antwerp, Wappenmeister') blind-tooled calf covers inlaid in nineteenth-century russia; stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers; upper board detached. Of the old covers, only the inner frame and rectangle survive, a lozenge-shaped central compartment has been cut out: on both covers triple fillets form a frame; the inner rectangle is divided by triple fillets into lozenge-shaped compartments. In the compartments three different stamps: a square stamp with a stag (Schwenke–Schunke 140, no. 26(?)), a round rosette stamp, and a lozenge-shaped stamp with a double-headed eagle (Schwenke–Schunke 16, no. 388); in the frame small rectangular stamps showing two dragons entwined(?). Size: 403 × 295 × 85 mm. Size of leaf: 382 × 270 mm. Initials are supplied in red, occasionally with reserved white decoration; paragraph marks are supplied in red. Provenance: Sir Thomas Chester (sixteenth century). George Harris (sixteenth century); on a1r: ‘Syr Thomas caster'; ‘Ab eo dono datus est Georgio Harris', both in sixteenth-century hands.
