Copies:
  1. A-547(1) Copy Binding: Seventeenth/eighteenth-century(?) English, blind-tooled mottled calf. Formerly chained: staple-marks of a hasp at head of the upper cover. On both covers double fillets form an outer frame, and an inner rectangle, the latter bordered with a floral roll and with a fleuron at each of the outer corners. Parchment front endleaf, with staple-marks of a hasp at the tail, these rust marks continuing through the first few leaves: this suggests that an earlier binding was stapled at the tail, rather than at the head; this probably took place when Thomas Sisson gave the book to Balliol (this may have been in 1518, when he vacated the Mastership). Number ‘17', and author and title, in a contemporary hand, on fore-edge; the gold stamp of the Bodleian Library on both covers. Size: 300 × 220 × 117 mm. Size of leaf: 287 × 197 mm. Initials and paragraph marks are supplied in red. Capital strokes in red. Provenance: Robert Cooke (fifteenth century); inscription on parchment flyleaf: ‘Magister Robertus Cok legauit hunc [librum] sub forma ista'. Thomas Sisson (fl. 1495–1543); Emden, BRUO notes that N. R. Ker suggested to him that Cooke bequeathed Auct. 7Q 2.29 to Sisson. Balliol College, Oxford; given to the College by Sisson; inscription on parchment endleaf: ‘Magister Thomas Cysson post eius descessum(!) Colligio(!) Bawlliol' Oxon' cathenandum'. Date of acquisition unknown. Former Bodleian shelfmarks: T 10. 17 Th.; Z 1. 9 Th.; Auct. P 1.12. SHELFMARK: Auct. 7Q 2.29.
